Dental Veneers
What are dental veneers and what materials are made of?
A dental veneer is a layer of COMPOSITE or PORCELAIN that is placed over the front surface of the tooth to improve the shape, form and aesthetic look of teeth.
Why would I use Dental Veneers?
Veneers are great to restore a tooth that has been fractured, chipped or discoloured. They can be used to align crowded teeth and even to close gaps between the teeth to create a nicer, brighter smile. The teeth can be made lighter in colour with the choice of composite or porcelain used to make the veneers. You can even go for a Hollywood type of smile makeover. Dental veneers help in regaining your confidence with a more fuller smile.
Composite vs Porcelain veneers
In general, Composite veneers are applied and sculpted directly to the tooth surface in the mouth. They are moulded and polished to achieve the desired aesthetics you are looking for. A great advantage is that it is a process that is reversible and can be removed and replaced as needed. Another advantage is that the procedure can be completed in a single appointment. You would expect them to last between 2 and 5 years when good oral care and hygiene is maintained.
Porcelain veneers is general used for more severe discoloration, misalignment or malformation of teeth. They are indirectly fabricated by a Dental Technician in the Lab and later bonded to the tooth. The great advantages are their extreme resistance to stain and chipping as compare to composite veneers and can last longer, up to 10 even 15 years if very good oral hygiene and care is maintained.
Would Veneers be suitable for me?
Firstly, an assessment done by our professional dentist is required before any further decision is taken. In order for a candidate to be suitable, issues like poor oral health, decay, gingivitis or periodontitis disease would need to be taken care of before having veneers fitted.
